What I like most about Ottawa Kabab is that it doesn’t feel like the food has been overly changed to make it more commercial. The mixed grills, kibbeh, appetizers and other Syrian and Middle Eastern dishes still have that recognizable homemade character. I also appreciate the variety. Someone unfamiliar with Syrian food can come for a simple kebab or mixed grill, while someone who grew up with this cuisine can find dishes that remind them of home. There is always room for improvement in any restaurant, but overall I see Ottawa Kabab as a solid representation of Syrian and Middle Eastern food in Ottawa — generous, traditional, family-oriented, and made for people who actually enjoy this cuisine rather than just want a quick meal.
