Food World Plus

Coming soon: a global grocery, halal butcher, food hall and wholesale destination in Mississauga.

Food World Plus is not open yet. It is an upcoming large-format multicultural supermarket and food destination taking over the former Highland Farms site in Mississauga. The Canadian-owned project, operated by JDass Corp., spans about 176,339 square feet and is being developed as a combination of international grocery market, food hall, specialty retailer and wholesale centre.

Plans include fresh produce, a full bakery and deli, dairy and cheeses from around the world, seafood and live seafood tanks, organic groceries, international pantry staples, and butcher counters with halal and kosher options. Its global selection is expected to cover Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, African, Caribbean, South Asian, East Asian, European and Latin American foods, making it especially relevant for shoppers looking for halal meat and hard-to-find ingredients from across the Middle East.

The proposed experience goes well beyond a conventional weekly grocery shop. Food World Plus says the store will include live cooking stations, a café with coffee and hot breakfast, sushi and fresh-juice bars, a specialty dessert parlour, a flower boutique, health and beauty products, Korean skincare, niche perfumes, cash-and-carry wholesale and professional catering. One of its most talked-about features is a planned 1,000-foot section dedicated to chocolate, candy and global snacks.

Public reaction has been lively. Many local commenters—especially people who remember shopping at Highland Farms—are asking for an opening date and praising the renovation and wider international selection. Some expect the store to become a major Mississauga destination, while a smaller number are skeptical about the scale of the concept and how it will compete with established supermarkets. Food World Plus has not announced a firm opening date. Its official website currently says “opening soon,” and the company told Instagram followers it was targeting a summer opening, so the launch appears close but remains unconfirmed until an exact date is published.
