Terms of Use

Last updated: September 14, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern access to and use of thehalalfood.ca and services provided by The Halal Food ("The Halal Food", "we", "us", or "our"). The Halal Food is a Canadian halal food discovery platform providing business listings, city and cuisine directories, editorial content, news, guides, review analysis, advertising, and related services.

By accessing or using The Halal Food, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.

1. The Halal Food Platform

The Halal Food helps users discover halal restaurants and other food-related businesses and organizations across Canada. The platform may include restaurant and business listings, location and cuisine pages, tags, maps, contact links, halal information, verification indicators, editorial reviews, review analysis, ratings or summaries from third-party sources, news, guides, advertisements, promotions, view counts, engagement statistics, and other discovery features.

Features may be added, changed, suspended, or removed as the platform develops.

2. Directory Listings

The Halal Food may create listings from information submitted by businesses or their representatives and from information available through public sources. A business does not necessarily need to create an account or directly submit information for publicly available business information to appear in the directory.

We may edit, organize, categorize, summarize, format, correct, update, merge, suspend, or remove listings to maintain the quality and usefulness of the directory. Businesses with multiple physical locations may be represented by separate listings where appropriate.

Business owners or authorized representatives may request corrections or updates. We may ask for reasonable evidence that the requester is authorized to represent the business.

3. Halal Information, Verification, and Certification

The Halal Food is a discovery and information platform. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, The Halal Food is not a halal certification body and does not replace certification, religious guidance, or a consumer’s own verification.

The terms "halal", "verified", "certified", and similar labels can represent different things. A business listed on The Halal Food is not automatically certified or independently verified merely because it appears in the directory. Where The Halal Food displays a verification status, certification reference, halal claim, monitoring organization, source, or supporting information, that information should be read in the specific context provided on the listing.

Halal practices, suppliers, ingredients, ownership, certification, and business operations can change. Users should confirm current requirements directly with the business and, when applicable, the named halal certification or monitoring organization before relying on the information.

4. Editorial Reviews and Review Analysis

The Halal Food may publish editorial reviews, summaries, recommendations, highlights, and review analyses. Editorial content reflects the information and assessment available to The Halal Food at the time of publication and may be updated.

Review Analysis may summarize or reference ratings, review counts, or other information from third-party platforms. Third-party ratings and counts belong to their respective sources, may change at any time, and may use different scoring systems or methodologies. The Halal Food does not control third-party reviews and does not guarantee that an aggregated or summarized result will remain current.

Editorial coverage, verification, popularity, views, engagement, placement, or inclusion in a guide does not guarantee food quality, halal compliance, safety, availability, pricing, service, or any particular customer experience.

5. Views, Engagement, Rankings, and Popularity Signals

The Halal Food may display statistics such as views and engagement. Engagement can include interactions with features such as Get Directions, Call, Visit Website, and social-media links. These figures are informational platform metrics, may be estimated or adjusted to improve data quality, and should not be interpreted as audited business performance, sales, unique customers, endorsements, or guarantees.

Search results, related listings, featured placements, popular content, and other rankings may be determined using relevance, location, category, editorial judgment, platform activity, sponsorship, technical factors, or combinations of these factors.

6. Advertising, Sponsored and Featured Content

The Halal Food may offer paid advertising, sponsored content, featured listings, enhanced listings, promotional placements, and other business services. Fees, duration, eligibility, placement, and included features may vary and may change over time.

Payment for advertising or enhanced visibility does not guarantee traffic, leads, sales, rankings, reviews, verification, halal certification, or business results. Where appropriate, The Halal Food may identify paid or sponsored placements so users can distinguish them from ordinary editorial or directory content.

7. Business Information and Accuracy

We make reasonable efforts to keep information useful and current, but we cannot guarantee that every address, telephone number, business hour, menu, price, social profile, ownership detail, halal claim, certification status, rating, review count, image, or other listing detail is complete, accurate, or current.

Businesses are responsible for the accuracy of information they submit or confirm. Users should independently verify information that is important to a purchasing, dietary, religious, travel, health, or other decision.

8. User and Business Submissions

If you submit text, images, logos, corrections, reviews, comments, listing information, documents, or other material to The Halal Food, you represent that you have the right to provide it and that doing so does not violate applicable law or another person’s rights.

You grant The Halal Food a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, format, adapt, display, distribute, and use submitted material as reasonably necessary to operate, promote, improve, and provide the platform and related The Halal Food services. You retain ownership of rights you otherwise hold in your original material.

You must not submit material that is knowingly false or misleading, unlawful, defamatory, fraudulent, malicious, infringing, discriminatory, obscene, deceptive, spam, or designed to manipulate The Halal Food metrics or systems.

9. Acceptable Use

You may not interfere with the operation or security of The Halal Food; attempt unauthorized access; introduce malware or harmful code; impersonate another person or business; harvest personal information without authorization; manipulate views, engagement, ratings, submissions, or other platform signals; bypass access controls; or use automated scraping, crawling, extraction, or bulk collection in a manner that violates these Terms or applicable law.

Ordinary indexing by legitimate search engines and other uses expressly authorized by The Halal Food are not prohibited by this section.

10. Intellectual Property

The Halal Food’s original editorial content, site design, branding, graphics, databases, compilations, software, and other original materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Third-party business names, logos, photographs, trademarks, reviews, and other materials remain the property of their respective owners where applicable.

You may link to public The Halal Food pages and share brief excerpts for legitimate commentary or reference, but you may not reproduce, republish, scrape, sell, systematically copy, or create a substitute database from substantial portions of The Halal Food without permission or another lawful basis.

11. Copyright and Rights Complaints

If you believe material on The Halal Food infringes your copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights, contact [email protected] with enough information to identify the material, its location on The Halal Food, your claimed rights, and how we can contact you. We may request additional information before taking action.

12. Third-Party Websites and Transactions

The Halal Food may link to restaurant websites, maps, social networks, delivery services, reservation services, review platforms, certification organizations, advertisers, and other third parties. The Halal Food does not control those services and is not a party to transactions between users and listed businesses unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Any order, reservation, payment, delivery, refund, food purchase, service, promotion, or dispute with a third-party business is governed by that third party’s terms and is between you and that provider.

13. Food, Allergy, Health, and Religious Information

Information on The Halal Food is provided for general informational and discovery purposes. It is not medical, nutritional, legal, or religious advice. Ingredient lists, allergen practices, cross-contamination risks, halal practices, certification, and preparation methods may change. If you have allergies, dietary restrictions, religious requirements, or health concerns, confirm them directly with the business or an appropriate qualified authority before ordering or consuming food.

14. Availability of the Platform

We aim to keep The Halal Food available and functioning but do not guarantee uninterrupted, secure, or error-free operation. We may perform maintenance, change features, restrict access, or experience outages or data loss. To the extent permitted by law, The Halal Food is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

15. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Halal Food makes no warranty regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability, availability, legality, halal status, certification status, safety, quality, pricing, or suitability of businesses, products, services, reviews, advertisements, links, or information appearing on the platform.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Halal Food and its owners, personnel, contractors, and affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss arising from reliance on platform information, interactions with third-party businesses, unavailable services, unauthorized access, or use of external websites. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limits statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be waived.

16. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, if you operate or represent a business, advertise on The Halal Food, or submit content to the platform, you agree to indemnify and hold The Halal Food harmless from third-party claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your submitted material, your business information, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of another person’s rights.

17. Moderation and Enforcement

The Halal Food may investigate reports, request supporting information, correct or remove content, restrict submissions, suspend features, or block access where we reasonably believe doing so is necessary to enforce these Terms, protect the platform or its users, comply with law, or maintain directory quality. We are not obligated to monitor every listing, review, link, or submission continuously.

18. Privacy

Our collection and handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

19. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to The Halal Food, our business practices, or applicable requirements. The revision date at the top indicates when these Terms were last updated. Continued use after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.

20. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Subject to any mandatory rights or jurisdiction available under applicable consumer law, disputes relating to these Terms or The Halal Food will be brought before courts of competent jurisdiction in Ontario, Canada.

21. Severability and Waiver

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect to the extent permitted by law. A failure by The Halal Food to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive our right to enforce it later.

22. Contact

Questions about these Terms, listing corrections, rights complaints, or other platform concerns may be sent to [email protected] or through our Contact Us page.
